This topic is an issue that is new to me, but not new to me at the same time, and it’s a topic that I find myself struggling with.

In my first few weeks as a student teacher for 11th grade English, I have noticed that both of the classes I am helping teach, have handfuls of students that are not at the level they are expected to be at when it comes to reading, comprehension, or writing. They also struggle with vocabulary exercises more often than not. I do not want to discourage these students from doing their best work, because a lot of them are eager, love participating, and have ideas on how they can do better. I struggle to find ways I can give them a boost without them losing interest in the classroom. I have been that student where I wasn’t at the same level in a certain subject (in this case it was math), and due to no positive help or reinforcements, I showed no interest in wanting to get better. It is interesting being on the other side of this situation.

I realize that a lot of my students don’t share the same issues, and may have different reasons for struggling, but I did come across articles that piqued my interest and may help me in the long run.
